* Enjoy the beautiful scenery in Island Park & Heesakker Park while walking the Heritage Parkway Trail.  The paved asphalt trail, which is over a mile long,  connects the two parks and is accessible by everyone. The view from the scenic overlook on the bow-string pedestrian bridge connecting the parks is amazing.  A new addition off the trail is the Nelson Family Heritage Crossing, which is a 1,100 foot bicycle and pedestrian connection between Little Chute's Heesakker Park and an expanded rail trail in the City of Kaukauna.  Click HERE for more details and the Little Chute trail access map.   Click HERE for Fox Cities Trails Information.

Deer Culling Information - APPLICATIONS DUE: WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 15th.
2025 DEER CULLING APPLICATION LINK (<-- click here)

The Village of Little Chute has offered a Deer Culling through Heesakker Park in December for over 10 years. In December 2024 the deer culling program was postponed for one year due to the Heart of the Valley Sewer District Interceptor lining project. In September 2025, the Village Board reinstated the Deer Culling Program for 2025. Agenda Packet 9.17.25.

The 2025 event is slated for December 8 to December 14 (Monday to Sunday). The park is shut down to users that use the trail systems within the park while the event occurs. This deer culling is performed to help control the population of deer in Heesakker Park. The Village Board approved program consists of four (4) Village of Little Chute resident bow hunters for one week only. Hunters that are selected at random must pass a proficiency test, background check, and fill out an application to be qualified for the culling. 2025 will continue with the four (4) separate hunting zones. Based on December trail counts, staff are comfortable with moving forward with this event as there is sufficient communication efforts to alert trail users of the event that closes down the entire park. Closing down the park will include placing barricades on the Pedestrian bridge to deter users entering the deer culling zone from Island/Nelson Family Heritage Crossing boardwalk; place signage at additional locations to ensure communication with users when the event is occurring; not plow or brush the trail and bridge during the Deer Culling scheduled dates.

Applications are due no later than WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 15 to the Park and Rec office on the 2nd floor of Village Hall. PLEASE USE THE LINK ABOVE (orange box) to access the application.

Heesakker Park Shelter and Parking Lot Trust Information

The Village Board awarded Graef as the consultant for the Heesakker Park Shelter & Parking Lot Concept Refinement project. Using stakeholder and staff comments and data, Graef has produced 3 concepts for facilities with capacities of 50, 75, and 100+ along with Opinion of Probable Cost (OPC) for each concept.

General Information about the Trust

In May 2023, the Village was gifted a donation from the Margaret Schwaller Revocable Living Trust. Heesakker Park was the homestead and family farm of Ms. Schwaller. The stipulations of the trust agreement include improvements to the park through the construction of a new clubhouse and the preservation and enhancement of the wooded area. The Village has 48 months to complete this project before the funds are transferred to the Fox Valley Community Foundation to help with long-term support and maintenance of Heesakker Park.
